Mangahigh has been made available free for the moment for schools impacted by school closures. Just registered for it so I can verify that it’s working. Registration is available here: https://www.mangahigh.com/en-gb/blog/2020-03-06-free-access-schools-online-maths-coronavirus
Quizizz is an online assessment tool which is similar to Kahoot but allows students to play independently (no need to see the teacher’s board) and at their own pace. Teachers can create quizzes and share them with their students or students can create their own accounts and choose a game based on a topic of their choice. Visit https://quizizz.com
Oxford Owl has an ebook library with over 250 books in it and offers free access to teachers and parents once you create an account at www.oxfordowl.co.uk. They also have some vocabulary and comprehension activities for most of the books.
Epic! is an online library which I call “Netflix for books for kids” . Teachers can sign up for free access by visiting getepic.com/educators and registering with a school email address e.g. [email protected] or an eircom address usually works too. You then get a class code so kids can log in via the website or the app at school.
This may be useful for distance learning also in the event of school closures as you can set up student accounts where you can assign books or track what students have read by adding kids to your Student Roster on Epic. This is only available during school hours as parents have to pay for this service at home outside school hours.
Epic has:
🔸 Over 35000 resources
🔸 Read to Me books
🔸 Audiobooks
🔸 Student tracking
🔸 Reading level linkage with Accelerated Reader and Read Theory levels
🔸 High interest texts such as National Geographic Kids and Guinness Book of Records
*remember to seek parental consent when setting up online accounts for students under 13
Twinkl Resources have been very generous and are offering teachers and parents one month free unlimited membership to Twinkl.ie using the code IRLTWINKLHELPS. Visit Twinkl.ie/offer to sign up.
